Job Description:
Job Description Purpose: Under direction, performs responsible
work in identifying, appraising, and interpreting communicative
disorders of speech, voice, and language, as well as oral/motor and
feeding disorders.

Essential Duties: Plans and provides educational group and
individual therapy programming as indicated by Individualized
Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)
Provides supervision, evaluation, and work assignments to assigned
instructional assistants, therapists, student teachers and/or
volunteers when appropriate Responsible for own involvement as an
active contributing team member involving group decision making and
the development of a positive, cooperative learning and work
environment Administers audiometric screening evaluations When
necessary confers with physicians, other professional individuals,
and parents concerning the diagnostic and therapeutic program and
overall communication and oral/motor/feeding needs of the student
Documents evaluations, treatment goals, plans and student progress
Enhances professional growth and development of self and others
through participation in educational programs, workshops, etc.
Keeps up to date on current professional literature Writes letters
of justification for AAC devices to either Early Intervention,
School Districts, or Medicaid. Performs Early Intervention,
Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)/Committee on
Special Education (CSE), or Alternative Augmentative Communication
(AAC) evaluations as necessary. Performs related work as required
Job Specifications: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
and New York State Licensure and ASHA certification or elegibility
to begin Clinical Fellowship year. New York State Teaching
Certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language
Disabilities (TSSLD) initial/professional certificate or Teacher of
the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) permanent certificate.
Necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and
developmental needs of the students Understanding of child
development · Compassionate understanding of and genuine concern
for children with multiple disabilities and their families ·
Ability to communicate with students, staff members, and parents in
a cordial and professional manner · Ability to work in an
educational setting in a confidential and professional manner ·
Daily lifting, movement and transferring of students is required ·
Daily feeding or oral motor program implementation is required ·
Team/mechanical lifting of students and or equipment and materials
· Movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices
is required · Other limited physical activities may be required ·
Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary ·
Physical contact with and/or possible exposure to bodily fluids may
occur This is a 12-month position.
